A man can receive nothing unless!

John 3:27 John answered and said, "A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven.

My friend why are you so worried about tomorrow? Why fret about something you haven’t received yet? Read this verse in context and you will see there has been unhappiness from John’s disciples because Jesus had more followers. John point their attention to the heavens. This is a notion he repeats twice in one verse – verse 31. A man can receive nothing. This is how we all start – with nothing. Then we receive something and want everything!

John is clear here in saying that that things are given to us from heaven. Read the verse again now and apply it to your own life. What is that one thing that you haven’t got and want so dearly? Ask yourself now – why do you want it? Just because others has it? “See this is the same error the disciples of John did. See, John, He has more than us!” Turn now to James Chapter 1.

James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

See James say every good gift and every perfect gift is from above. Our English language has only one word for two Greek words here. Every good gift – Greek “dosis” means giving. And every perfect gift “dorema” means gift. This means God is giving us gifts with good intent and out of a good heart. Don’t envy what others have, look at what you received. That which you have is both good and perfect for you. Let’s put this verse in context and you will notice that verse 17 is a precursor to verse 18.

James 1:18 Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures.

Ah, you see this is the best gift you and I can receive. Giving “dosis” His Son as a “dorema” gift opened the door for you and me to eternal life. This makes everything else looks pale in comparison. He brought us forth means to be born again. This is the best gift of all. Now, read John 3:27 again and thank the Lord for what He has given you and receive it with thanks giving. Do not fret about tomorrow about your future, your children’s future, weather you will have a job, food, clothes, friend – you fill in the blanks – Point is do not fear.
